My Top 5 Platinum Trophies On PlayStation

I have been thinking a lot about trophy hunting on the PlayStation over the last few weeks. In particular, the idea of hunting platinum trophies.

I have amassed an excellent collection of games over the last year or so, and even since starting this blog. So naturally I became curious about how much I had completed each game.

Scrolling through my trophy list, I wondered how well I was doing in terms of trophies earned per game. I was happy to learn that I had earned some platinum trophies which I am pretty proud of.

With that, I decided to show off some of my favorite platinum trophies I have earned.

Quick disclaimer here, I don’t think any of them were particularly difficult to earn. I am happy with them because they have been games I have enjoyed playing, mostly, and in most cases have been super nostalgic to play.

Ratchet & Clank — PS4

I’ve said it before but the Ratchet & Clank remaster on the PlayStation 4 was the reason I bought a PlayStation 4.

So as you can imagine then, I am a huge fan of this series of games.

It was also one of the first games I played on the PlayStation 2. As a result, this was the ultimate nostalgia trip.

This was a nice and achievable platinum trophy to work towards. Most of the trophies you get simply by playing through the game twice. Once all the way through and then once in challenge mode.

You have your typical Ratchet & Clank trophies like buying and upgrading all weapons, finding the dreaded Rhyno cards to build the Rhyno and winning hover board races.

The rarest, and likely the most tedious trophy to acquire was Death by Disco. This required you to use the Groovitron on every type of enemy, and I mean every type of enemy. The Groovitron weapon unleashes a powerful disco ball which causes enemies of all shapes and sizes to break into dance, leaving them more vulnerable to attacks.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this is a fun weapon to use at first, but the novelty soon wears off.

This means that remembering to actually use the thing on each and every type of enemy is tough. The best way I found to do this was to get a list of every enemy type and simply cross them off as I carried out the task.

Needless to say, this was something I did on my second play through to avoid spoiling the first one.

So overall:

Spyro the Dragon — PS4

Spyro the Dragon, or to be more exact the Spyro the Reignited Trilogy is another gaming remaster that was released onto the PlayStation 4 in recent years.

I bet you are starting to sense a theme here, and you are right.. I am a sucker for nostalgia.

The platinum trophy that I am talking about in this case is for the first game in the trilogy. I am really trying to savor these games as much as possible which is why I haven’t completed the other 2 yet.

Even putting in the disc and loading up the loading screen gave me nostalgic thrills to be honest. I was so happy to own this game considering I never actually owned the original games on the PlayStation 1.

We ended up renting the games from Xtravision multiple times so we never actually bought them. Something I regret to this day, but what can you do.

Seeing the vibrant, colorful and detailed environments of each exceptionally re-crafted level was an absolute treat. I used every opportunity I could to take screenshots of pretty much everything in the game.

This consequently added a fair bit of time to the game play, though I didn’t care.

Making my way carefully through each level, collecting all the gems and freeing all of the dragons got me most of the way towards the platinum.

Without doubt the biggest challenge were those flying missions where you need to zoom around and collect all of the items within the time limit without hitting the water. This at one point made me question my reasons for getting the platinum trophy I’ll be honest.

Taking a break from it certainly helped to mitigate my burning rage.

Since writing this post I have since been able to platinum all of the 3 games in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy which was a joy to do To sum up:

Skyrim — PS3

Ah Skyrim, you were a tedious platinum trophies to earn. Especially when the game started to turn to crap as I got towards my last few trophies. No joke, the game started to slow down and die.

I’m not entirely sure it will work properly if go back to it today, though part of me is now curious.

Earning the platinum for this game was not something that I intended to do from the outset. Skyrim always seemed like such a vast game. I could never possibly put in the hours into earning each and every trophy the game had to offer.

With that said, the more time I sank into the game, the more missions I completed and the more trophies I earned. As I saw my trophy list build and build I became more determined to get them all.

The trophies in this game were more aimed at sinking time into the game rather than being annoyingly difficult or impossible to get.

Once I had committed to getting the platinum there was no going back.

God were some of those trophies time consuming.. The worst one was surely “One with the Shadows” which required you to return the thieves guild to its former glory. Talk about a tedious task.

This was more of a test of endurance than actual skill lets be honest.

Once I had acquired this trophy the rest seemed like a piece of cake. Even collecting all 15 daedric artifacts was something that I didn’t mind doing. At least I could more easily track my progress with this.

If I didn’t feel like going for them all at once I could take a break and do other things.

I know I could have done this with the other trophy but I felt that I would lose track of my progress if I went ahead and did other things.

Now that I think of it, I’m pretty sure one of the last trophies I earned before the platinum was Master Criminal. This trophy required you to attain a bounty of 1000 gold in each of the 9 holds. You have to do some pretty bad stuff to get a bounty of 1000 gold in one hold never mind 9.

I think it was at this point that my game started do die. Seeing the end in sight, I refused to give in and try again later. I was committed to seeing this game through.

Needless to say I got the trophy and the platinum trophy along with it. At this point I promptly saved the game and turned the console off. Pretty sure there’s absolute carnage waiting for me the next time I attempt to load that game..

So to sum up:

My experience trophy hunting in Skyrim, I’m not going to say I exactly enjoyed it but it was another satisfying platinum to acquire once I’d decided to try and go for it. Like I said before, its a time sink. It isn’t really based on difficulty or multiplayer trophies which was perfect for me. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy — PS3

Ah what do we have here? Another remastered game? Of course! Jak & Daxter was yet another favorite PlayStation 2 series of mine so getting the platinum trophy was pretty much a no brainer.

Having gotten a copy of the remastered trilogy for the PlayStation 3 and later finding a copy in the charity shop for next to nothing, I saw this as a sign to get the platinum trophies for each of these games.

To date, I just have the platinum for the first game. As with the Spyro trilogy I am really trying to space these games out to enjoy them more.

The original Jak & Daxter game was tougher than you might initially think based on its enticing environments and friendly looking characters. The platforming, collecting and simply beating of levels can be come quite difficult quite quickly.

Especially that damn fisherman challenge where you have to catch a certain type of fish and avoid another kind of fish as they cannon downstream towards you and your puny net. God that was tough. Should have been a trophy for that one!

Looking back through the completion of these trophies the rarest one at the time of writing is “The Super Orbinator” at 17.7% which requires you to collect 2000 precursor orbs.

I was quite surprised at how high all of the percentages are. The platinum is 17.4%. This is probably the highest percentage platinum I’ve seen in my trophy list so far!

In the end though:

Marvel’s Spiderman — PS4

I was definitely excited for the release of Marvel’s Spiderman in 2018 and once I was able to borrow a copy from my brother, you can believe

I was going to get that platinum without hesitation. Especially after I had heard the completion rate was quite high for the game.

A common trait it seems of games that I platinum revolve around playing the game rather than being about completing ridiculously hard tasks that are annoying and make you question your life.

The trophy list for Spiderman, though it was challenging in places, could all be attained by simply playing through the game meticulously and collecting and completing everything.

Of course it helped that the game play was amazingly fun. Swinging through the city provided no end of enjoyment for me.

The story line also stood out to me with this game. It was more involved than what I have seen from Spiderman games in the past.
